Fergus Allen has been writing and occasionally publishing verse since the reign of Edward VIII, but mainly in the past twenty years. He had three collections of poems published by Faber in 1993, 96 and 99; and his fourth collection by the Dedalus Press in Dublin in 2006. A selection of his poems is about to appear in the National Poetry Archive.
He was born in London of an Anglo-Irish father and an English mother, but grew up in Ireland, where he attended Quaker schools and then studied at Trinity College, Dublin. He has lived in the south of England since 1944, but continues to regard himself as Irish.
