Born in 1977 in Manhattan, New York, Catherine Theis grew up outside Chicago and spent her summers in Sicily with her family, where she swam in blue coves and ate gelato before dinner. She speaks Italian in a local dialect, and once composed a sonnet to the sun and moon with ink from an octopus. Catherine is the author of the chapbook, The Fraud of Good Sleep (SUN SUN SUN Press). Her poems have appeared in numerous journals, including Fence, Columbia Poetry Review, Gulf Coast, LIT, and Volt. She is the recipient of an Individual Artists Fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council.
