Sarah Howe was born in Hong Kong in 1983, to an English father and Chinese mother. She studied English at Cambridge and later as a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard. Her debut pamphlet of poems, A Certain Chinese Encyclopedia, was published in Tall-lighthouse's Pilot series in 2009. She won an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors in 2010, and is a former Foyle Young Poet of the Year (2000).
